After seeing the video of the Porsche run in 1966 we thought it would be a great idea to recreate a modern day version of this, 57 years on! The run will be on the Sunday 26th March and we’d love your support in recreating this. It’ll be a little different from our usual drives, as we’ll be stopping and starting at various points to get the footage required. Two videos will be created, one that’s (hopefully) a mirror image of the 1966 version, then a South Lakes and Cumbria region video with additional footage included – so we’d love for members to get some of their own footage too throughout the day that can be edited into the video. Who knows, maybe someone will recreate our version in another 57 years time!
We’re starting the day at South Lakes Porsche Car Park meeting at 8am and leaving for 8.30am, where we’ll head towards The Windermere RO for Breakfast. Where better to start the run than the original starting point in 1966. From here we’ll head from The Windermere RO towards Dent, Hawes and onto the Hardraw Force Waterfall where we’ll stop for a picnic lunch like they did back in the day (Please bring your sandwiches!). After Lunch we’ll head over Buttertubs to Tan Hill and onto Lowther Castle for Coffee. Leaving here we’ll head to Pooley Bridge, through Patterdale, to the Kirkstone Inn and finally returning to The Windermere RO for dinner at 17.30 (3 Courses for £30, or 2 Courses for £25). Anyone who would like to join us just for the meal is more than welcome to do so.
The original run was done over two days, however with certain bits missing of the route we’ve decided to condense this down into one day. John has painstakingly gone through all the footage and pin pointed each location, and planned the route from there. From this he’s planned timings to allow us to capture the footage required.
The total mileage is approx 148 miles, and we aim to return to Windermere for around 5.30pm.
Breakfast at the Windermere RO is £12.95 including Tea/Coffee.
If anyone would like to stay over at the RO rooms are available from £160.00. If there is a few people wanting to stop there maybe a Group booking discount available.
If you’d like to join in on this epic adventure and be a part of the video it’s important you let us know, by email on southlakesandcumbria@tipec.net For anyone who doesn’t confirm by email unfortunately we won’t be able to accommodate you.
We also need volunteers for people to video in certain locations. If your hobby is a professional videographer/photographer then your help would be very much appreciated.
